Pride

I thought I’d share some notes I’ve collected about the seven deadly sins.
After all, we are to repent when necessary. These notes are taken the whitestone journal (http://www.whitestonejournal.com/), The Catholic Encyclopedia, Phyllis Tickle’s Greed, C.S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity, Kathleen Norris’ Acedia, Lance Webb’s Conquering the Seven Deadly Sins and Os Guiness’ Steering Through Chaos, and my own  experience.

Pride (self-conceit) – is identified as a desire to be more important or attractive than others, failing to give compliments to others though they may be deserving of them, said to be the root of every other sin. C.S. Lewis says, the more pride one has, the more one dislikes it in others. If you want to know how proud you are, the easiest way to find out is to ask yourself, “How much do I dislike it when other people snub me, or refuse to take any notice of me, or shove their oar in, or patronize me and show off?” Pride is competitive.

Humility swallows pride.

Humility – seeing ourselves as we are and not comparing ourselves to others. Pride and vanity are competitive. If someone else’s pride really bothers you, then you have a lot of pride.
